Mr. Umesh Munavalli
"A Multifaceted Maestro"

Mr. Umesh Munavalli hails from a distinguished family of musicians, with a musical heritage deeply rooted in tradition. His grandfather, Pt. Basavaraj Vakkund, was a devoted disciple of the legendary Ganayogi Panchakshari Gavai of Gadag. Music, therefore, runs naturally in Mr. Munavalli’s veins.
Born on July 10, 1973, in the culturally rich village of Hooli in Belgaum district, Mr. Munavalli was nurtured in an environment steeped in music. From a very young age, he displayed signs of exceptional musical talent.
His foundational training began under the guidance of his maternal uncle, Shri Mallikarjun Vakkund. He later had the privilege of learning intricate Bandishes and the theoretical nuances of Gayaki from Shri C. M. Pattar, a respected music educator at the training college in Dharwad. His musical journey continued under the blessings of Pt. Somanath Maradur, from whom he absorbed the techniques of Alap, Badhat, various Tan patterns, and the subtle intricacies of different Raga-Raginis.
With a solid grounding in classical music, Mr. Munavalli earned a special place in the heart of the illustrious Pt. Panchakshari Swami Mattagatti of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. Pt. Mattagatti, a direct disciple of the doyen Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, has mentored Mr. Munavalli for over 12 years. Under his guidance, Mr. Munavalli refined his art, achieving excellence in Swara purity, Raga interpretation, and the enchanting intricacies of Layakari.
